Unofficial Seething Sunday

So there is a goth/post punk/darkwave event happening here today. A daytime event on a Sunday. Pretty great idea if you ask me and I have tried to get stuff like this happening before. Even better the 2 DJs include one of the members of This Cold Night (local Adelaide Darkwave band many of you have heard of, they have been posted in r/goth before) and the other plays alt music on a local community radio station. So they know what they are doing and we will get what is advertised. This is my kind of event – during the day on a Sunday like the record club days but music I like to play myself and someone else is playing it.

The problem? This seems to be a last minute thrown together thing as no one knew about it until today. Instead of being there right now enjoying some great music and having a beer tor two I am here writing this post. If I had a few days notice I could have prepared and gone to it and I an sure most other people are in the same boat. I am hopeful it will happen again as one of the DJs saw my post sharing the event and liked it. I am following them now so hopefully I get more prior warning next time.

Not quite seething but certainly annoyed at the missed opportunity. This is why we promote our events.

Not being “outwardly” goth

Hi, if this is against the rules or anything I apologize. I just wasn’t sure of where to post this.

Growing up, I’ve always wanted to dress in a goth way, and be able to show that I’m a part of the scene. Of course I’ve listened to the music, and I know that makes me goth. But I’ve always loved the fashion, and I’ve always wanted to wear it. I’ve never been able to for a couple of reasons that I won’t get into. :/

When I go to concerts, I feel really out of place. You see all these people with death hawks and wild makeup and whatnot, and it just feels a little saddening to see. I wish I had friends who enjoy the same music I do, and shared the same interests. Of course, there’s a huge goth scene in NYC, but I never grew up around anyone like me. I’m also not of age to go to most goth events yet, (like the goth nights in Saint Vitus and stuff.) I really just wish I knew someone else around my age in the scene, someone who would just get it. Sorry for the long post and please let me know if I worded this wrong or anything, thank you !!

Are comedy and tragedy masks goth?

Yes I know asking if anything is goth is a bad way to pose a question, but go along with me. My tradgoth friend has been the authority on my wardrobe for the past few months or so, and I recently developed a fascination with comedy and tragedy mask imagery. She claims that the motif isn't goth "because they're gross"… which I don't get. So, are tragedy and comedy masks goth imagery?

I’ve been pronouncing Siouxsie the wrong way

I referred to her as, "Sweezy" instead of "Soo-zee" in front of my friends and they've been making fun of me for like an hour. This fucking sucks

The Goth accent (for lack of a better term)

Ey up all,

This is something thats been on my mind for awhile and I dont think its just within the goth scene but hear me out.

I have discussed this with my friends that confirmed it and also once with a large goth youtuber (AB) during a live stream through chat.

So I want to see if any of you, perhaps more so during your youth reduced your accent to not sound like the people around you, this could be because you disliked your local dialect or for where I am from, to not sound like the local chavs.

other more out there reasons maybe influences from band members, to sound more smart, or influences for say in UK to sound like charters from movies who spoke "proper" English with a london / posh dialect, or maybe you moved and had issues being understood.

I hope this makes sense, the main point im trying to ask is, did you change your dialect due to not liking your own? because generally within the scene I have noticed most folk are quite well spoken.

Again i have spoke to a few people about this and a few certinly have confirmed it.

I am researching it for my own video for youtube.

Thank you all.
